Doppler/Horst seal incredible comeback to reach the semis
Poreč better prepare itself for another Austrian invasion on Sunday after Clemens Doppler and Alex Horst secured an incredible quarterfinal win over Saymon/Guto in front of thousands of fans on a packed Center Court.
The Austrians lost the first set and then somehow saved six match points against them in a thrilling decider to set-up a semifinal with Chaim Schalk and Ben Saxton – after the Canadians stunned smart Major Hamburg winners Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena.
“No Dalhausser?” said a surprised, shocked and speechless Clemens after their epic win. “We basically lost the game give times! We didn’t give up and a win like this shows we’re a tough team to beat now.
“In the final set they kept coming back with serves and Alex kept digging in – he basically won the game himself.”
Alex was all smiles afterwards, too: “Of course I’m smiling, we’ve reached the semifinal of a tournament of the biggest series in the world.”
