The beach volleyball court is rectangular measuring 16m x 8m. It is surrounded by a free zone of 5m minimum.

Points
A team scores a point by successfully landing the ball on the opponent's court or when the opposing team faults.

To win a set
The first team to reach a score of 21 points with a minimum of a two-point-lead wins a set, except for the deciding third set. In the case of a 20-20 tie, play is continued until a two-point lead is achieved (22-20; 23-21; etc.).
To win the match
The match is won by the team that wins two sets. In the case of a 1-1 tie, a deciding 3rd set is played to 15 points with a minimum lead of 2 points.

The team has to serve within the first 5 seconds after the first whistle.
The ball touches ground within the lines of field of play
The ball touches ground outside the lines of the field of play, touches another object or is played outside the antennas of the net.
The ball is played outside the lines of the field of play, but touched by the defending team beforehand.
A player touches the ball twice in one play after it has already been touched by the same player.
A team touches the ball four times before returning it to the other team.
The ball is caught or thrown or rebounces in any direction.
A player touches the net while playing.
A player touches the ball on the opponents side of the net (only allowed while blocking).
A player touches the service line as he/she serves.
If there are two or more faults committed by both teams at the same time, the referee decides on double fault and will replay.
Teams swap sides after every 7 points scored (in the 1st and 2nd set) and after every 5 points (3rd set).
Each team can request a 30 second time out per set. There is also an additional 30 second technical time out in the 1st and 2nd sets.
The yellow card is a formal warning and is shown if a foul is committed
