smart Major Hamburg winners eyeing second successive Major title
Bad news folks…Laura Ludwig says there’s plenty more to come from her and partner Kira Walkenhorst as the German superstars aim for a fourth successive tournament win at the Poreč Major.
Having been in unstoppable form to win the European Championships, Ludwig/Walkenhorst stormed to success on home sand at the smart Major Hamburg – and then made it three in a row by beating all before them at the Olsztyn Grand Slam.
“I always believed in our team, I knew we could beat a lot of teams and a lot good teams but we’ve had to wait and be patient,” Laura told us. “We’ve practiced hard to be consistent – maybe I didn’t think we could win three in a row but we’ve proved to ourselves that we can.
“We’re in a good position because of hard work, teams want to be beat us and that will make us better. The field is strong this year and you’ve seen that in other tournaments where you wouldn’t think the big teams would get beat.
“Can we win again? We will see what happens.”
At last year’s Poreč Major Ludwig/Walkenhorst exited in dramatic fashion in the first knockout round, losing to eventual silver medalists Pavan/Bansley.
On the opening day of Pool Play this year the duo already took a giant step towards a second round place with two victories.
“It wasn’t good last year,” confirmed Ludwig. “It’s already looking better – we’ve already got one more win that we did on the first day last year.
“We need to win tomorrow to get first in the pool to at least finish ninth – otherwise it could be a repeat of last year.”
