Men do battle on first day of Poreč Major
As ever the opening first day of qualification at a Swatch Major Series is full of drama and excitement and, for the men, it was no different as 12 teams lived to fight another day in Wednesday’s second round at the Poreč Major.
Of the dozen matches that were played in the men’s competition, the game between Germany’s Dollinger/Wickler and Austria’s Eglseer/Schnetzer was the first to be played on the incredible Center Court as the fans took advantage of the free entry to take up a position in the stadium on the banks of the Adriatic.
And the beach fans were treated to one of the most exciting matches of the day in the men’s competition as the Austrian team battled back from losing the first set to triumph in dramatic style in 46 minutes.
It was the perfect fixture to open Center Court but there was plenty more theatre on the side courts…we even had our own version of a Brexit, as English team Sheaf/Gregory were dumped out of the tournament by Norwegians Tvinde/Mol.
And there was more success for Norway as Bernsten/Mol, who came through country quota yesterday, saw off the challenge of Serbian boys Basta/Kolaric.
On Wednesday not one, not two, not three but FOUR Norwegian teams go in search of a victory that would put their names in the all-important Main Draw.
Sadly for Croatia, however, another one of those teams from Norway to make it through were Sørum/Eithum, who dispatched home hopes Matic/Vujnovic in front of thousands of fans on the Center Court.
Qualification continues for the men on Wednesday with number one seeds Guto/Saymon of Brazil going head-to-head with Austria’s Eglseer/Schnetzer.
All the matches will be streamed live on our website and you can find all the fixtures here!
