It’s not long until we pitch up in Poreč again!

Poreč! We’ve missed you so much but it’s not long until we meet again!

And as the stadium begins to take shape on the shores of the Adriatic, the beautiful town is already buzzing with excitement as time ticks towards another famous week of beach volleyball action.

Yes, the Poreč Major is almost upon us and kicks off on 28 June – and we’re not alone in being excited about returning to this breathtaking location for more world class sport…just ask the Mayor!

Edi Štifanić, the Mayor of Poreč, said at last week’s press conference: “Last year, before the first Poreč Major, I declared that as a combination of sport, entertainment, sun and sea, it will be a winning event for Poreč.”

“We have a rich sports infrastructure, we are the city of sports and I am very glad that Poreč Major had such success last year. I have been the Mayor for 11 years and I must say that the citizens of Poreč are very critical when it comes to their city but they all agreed that Poreč Major is a first-class event and that we should continue with it and make it even more special every year.”

“This year, the city invested 2 million kuna (USD 300,000) in the infrastructure, power stations and sanitary facilities at Peškera and I must commend the synergy of private/public sector on that project, Valamar and Laguna, the tourist board of Poreč and tourist boards of the surrounding cities which supported the city project.”

These views were shared by members of the Croatian tourist board, including Anton Kliman, the minister of tourism.

He said: “More and more sports fans and enthusiasts visit Croatia each year and that is the reason why we pay a special attention on building the image of Croatia as a sports destination.”

“After a very successful event last year, I believe that Poreč Major will attract even more guests to enjoy this sport spectacle as well as interesting offers and natural beauties that Poreč and the whole of Croatia have to offer.”
