It’s semifinal time for the women at Poreč Major
What a day Friday was for Czech duo Barbora Hermannová and Marketa Slukova at the Poreč Major.
The stars of The Divine Set photoshoot prior to the tournament won twice to book their place in the semifinals.
Their first victory came on side court 4 against Finland’s Rikka Lehtonen and Taru Lahti-Liukkonnen in the round of 16. Hermannová and Slukova triumphed 21-18, 21-19 in 40 minutes to seal a quarterfinal berth.
It was an all-Czech clash in the last eight of the competition as Hermannová and Slukova were drawn against Kristyna Kolocova and Michala Kvapilova – a team that sent Olympic champion Laura Ludwig tumbling out of the tournament.
Kolocova and Kvapilova took the first set 21-15 but 2016 Olympians Barbora and Marketa fought back and took the final two sets 21-12, 15-10 to advance to Saturday’s semifinals.
The pair will take on rising Swiss stars Tania Hüberli and Nina Betschart at the Red Bull Beach Arena at 5.20pm CET.
The winners of that semifinal will face either Barbara Seixas De Freitas and Fernanda Berti Alves of Brazil or Canada’s Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Parades in the final.
