Olympic champs and last year’s winners face tricky tests tonight
The women’s pool play is over and tonight the winner-takes-all elimination round begins with a host of top players involved.
After losing two of their pool games, Olympic champion Laura Ludwig and partner Maggie Kozuch will take on Austria’s Stefanie Schwaiger and Katharina Schützenhöfer in the Red Bull Arena at 7pm CET.
Last season’s Poreč Major champions, Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude, also face a tough match in a bid to reach the next stage as they face up-and-coming Dutch duo Stubbe/Sinnema.
The pick of the matches in the round of 24, however, pits Swiss stars Heidrich/Vergé Dépré against Brazilians Agatha/Duda, the silver medalists of Fort Lauderdale.
Following the completion of the pool play, eight teams automatically booked their spots in the last 16, including American youngsters Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes, who are unbeaten so far in Poreč.
