2015 Poreč Major winners see off Ludwig/Kozuch
Reigning World Champions Larissa/Talita continued their blistering start to the Poreč Major by coming from behind to beat Olympic champion Laura Ludwig and Maggie Kozuch to make it three wins out of three in the pool play.
In a high-quality match played out on side court 3, the 2015 Poreč Major winners lost the opening set 21-19 to their German opponents.
A similarly tight second set followed that the Brazilians took 21-16 with both teams swapping some sensation points, much to the delight of the crowd.
The deciding set was nip and tuck until Larissa pulled off a magical shot to put the Brazilians in command and that was enough to ensure they held on to win the third 15-12 to book their place in the second round of elimination on Friday.
“It was a very tough match, the Germans played so well,” Talita said afterwards. “Laura is a good player and Maggie served so well.
“But in the last two sets Larissa made some great digs and we served better. We didn’t lose our focus when we lost the first set.”
Laura and Maggie, who will entered the first elimination round later on Thursday having finished third in Pool A, added: “We’re a little bit out breath and a bit sad but it was a really tough match. But that will make it better for us because we learned a lot.”
