Four teams, four games, four wins
The Poreč Major has always been a firm favorite with the Austrians – and that theme continued on a brilliant day for the host nation of the forthcoming FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships presented by A1.
Four separate teams were in action and all of them won in breathtaking style.
On a memorable day for Austria, the first impressive win came for Schützenhöfer/Schwaiger against Americans Sweat/S.Ross, as they fought back magnificently to win in three sets having lost the first set.
The United States were again on the receiving end as Dalhausser/Lucena were dispatched in straight sets by Tuesday’s qualifiers and World Championship wildcards Winter/Seidl.
It got even better for Austria in the afternoon as Poreč Major wildcards Ermacora/Pristauz delivered another straight sets win, defeating Brazilians Evandro/Andre.
And if that wasn’t enough, Alex Horst and Clemens Doppler made it four in a row for Austria with a 2-0 win over Russians Stoyanovskiy/Yarzutkin. The pair were silver medalists in Poreč 12 months ago and would bet against them – or one of their fellow Austrians – going all the way to the final again.
