Croatian star drawn against Fort Lauderdale champs
Inter Milan soccer star Ivan Perišić faces a tough, but fascinating, task in his bid for Poreč Major glory following the draw for the pool play.
The 28-year-old Croatian international was drawn in Pool A, alongside Fort Lauderdale Major winners Alvaro/Saymon and Americans Brunner/Patterson and Gibb/Taylor Crabb. Perisic’s first match will be on the Red Bull Beach Arena at 9pm CET on Wednesday against the Brazilians.
Meanwhile, reigning Poreč Major and Olympic champions Alison/Bruno kick-off their defence of the gold medal against Germans Dollinger/Erdmann. The duo also face European Championships Lupo/Nicolai and the cousins from Chile, Marko and Esteban Grimalt.
Last year’s women’s winners, Laboureur/Sude go in search of back-to-back Poreč golds in a group with Lahti/Lehtonen, Kolocova/Kvapilova, Ahtianen/Sinisalo.
The big news from Tuesday was that Olympic champions Kira Walkenhorst has been ruled out of the competition through injury. Partner Laura Ludwig has teamed up with Maggie Kozuch, and the new team face a mouth-watering match against Fort Lauderdale winners Larissa/Talita in Pool A.
In other intriguing battles, two of the top teams from Canada meet, as Saxton/Schalk meet Pedlow/Schachter in Pool C on court 2 at 12.20pm CET.
