Let the games begin!
The time has come to push the button on the Poreč Major 2017!
We’ve already had some early excitement and drama with Kerri Walsh Jennings and Nicole Branagh leaving the tournament before it’s even started!
But on Tuesday the Major motors into action with a busy day of qualification that will see eight men’s and women’s teams advance into the main draw which gets under way on Wednesday.
The first round of qualification matches kick-start across the side courts from 10am CET with a host of teams vying for a place in the second phase of qualifying.
They include Croatian women’s teams Coric/Coric and Becic/Becic and men’s duos Pribanic/Cickovic and Gracin/Zukovskij. Can the hosts battle through to the main draw?
Top men’s seeds in qualifying are Brazilians Pedro Solberg/Guto, while Emily Day and Brittany Hochevar, who saw off Walsh/Branagh, get top billing in the women’s section.
The first action on the Red Bull Beach Arena takes place between 5pm and 7pm CET with Cubans Nivaldo/Gonzalez involved in what will be the last match of the day. The well-fancied Caribbean tandem will either take on Gracin/Zukovskij or Germans Böckermann/Flüggen for a place in the main draw.
