You’re sunbathing while the sun beams down gloriously from the blue skies above, you’re listening to the sound of the crystal clear Adriatic Sea lapping against the Croatian coastline and you’re watching the world’s best beach volleyball players. You are also, most probably, smiling.

And with good reason – you’re at one of the side courts at the Poreč Major.

Away from the hustle and bustle of the Red Bull Beach Arena in the center of Poreč, lie two tranquil locations that beach volleyball fans definitely should not miss during a stunning week of action on the sand.

Side Court 2 and Side Court 3 are located a stone’s throw from the four-star Valamar Zagreb Hotel. Fans can wake up after a good night’s sleep and head straight to one of the courts and take advantage of the seating positions alongside both courts. 

These side courts are also easily accessible from Poreč town center and are within walking distance from the Red Bull Beach Arena.

Meanwhile, situated in a quiet bay to the south of the Red Bull Beach Arena and on the doorstep of the four-star Hotel Laguna Molindrio, are Side Court 4 and Side Court 5. Here, fans can lie on the lush green banks of grass which form a natural grandstand, giving the perfect vantage point of not only both courts but of also the blue waters out to sea.

These courts can be reached by taxi boat from the marina (which is definitely worth doing, by the way), by car or via the tourist train which runs in the town.

With the competition hotter than it has ever been for the third instalment of the Poreč Major, the chances are whichever side court you head to you’ll witness one the world’s best teams. Last year, Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude played all three of their pool play matches on the side courts and the German girls went onto win gold.

And, if you want a tip, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for which side court Kerri Walsh Jennings and Nicole Branagh’s country quota match will be on. It promises to be one of the most eagerly anticipated matches to take place on a side court in Poreč Major history!
